City and Guilds (2339-17) Certificate in Electrical Power Engineering // Level 2

This course is designed for those who would like to gain relevant knowledge and skills to pursue a career in the power industry.

Areas of study include:

  • Legislation in the power industry
  • Mathematics, mechanical and electrical theory in power engineering
  • Electrical theory in power engineering
  • Cables, sub stations and overhead lines

You will be working in excellent facilities, using industry-standard equipment safely and you’ll be taught by engineers with vast industry experience and close relationships with some of the region’s largest employers.

Entry requirements

Two GCSEs at Grade D, including maths and English, or a relevant Level 1 Engineering qualification. AN interview with a course tutor is also required.


You will be required to complete the following: multiple-choice assessments and short answer question papers.

Progression & careers

Supported by Northern Powergrid, the Level 2 Certificate in Electrical Power Engineering (2339-17) allows you to gain the skills you need to progress to a higher-level engineering course, seek an apprenticeship or simply enjoy working within an engineering environment. You may be able to progress onto a Level 3 engineering qualification. You will gain expertise on this course that will provide you with the essential components of an engineering career especially within the power industry.

This is a new qualification to support the Power Industry Distribution and Transmission Apprenticeships at Level 2.
