City & Guilds (2850-40) Certificate in Mechanical Engineering // Level 2

This course is designed for those who would like to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the broad engineering sector.

This course is designed for those who would like to gain relevant knowledge and practical skills required to develop or build on a successful career in engineering or manufacturing.

  • Principles of engineering technology
  • Principles of manufacturing technology
  • Machining components using turning techniques
  • Using bench fitting techniques

You will be working in excellent facilities, using industry-standard equipment safely and you’ll be taught by engineers with vast industry experience and close relationships with some of the region’s largest employers.

Entry requirements

Two GCSEs at Grade D, including maths and English, or a relevant Level 1 Engineering qualification. An interview with a course tutor is also required.


You will be required to complete the following: practical assessments, short answer question papers and online multiple-choice assessments.

Progression & careers

Learners who complete this course gain the skills needed to progress to a higher-level engineering course, seek an apprenticeship or simply enjoy working within an engineering environment. You may be able to progress onto a Level 3 Engineering qualification.
