The course for you if ...

You want to learn basic technical skills for a wide range of Engineering disciplines.

What will I study?

This course develops your basic skills in engineering, your personal effectiveness and project management capabilities. Areas of study include: Working safely in an engineering environment; Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively; Making engineering components using hand tools; Planning and making a
machined product; Using and communicating technical information; Carrying out sheet metalwork activities; and Using manual metal arc welding equipment.

You will be working in excellent facilities, using industry-standard equipment safely and you’ll be taught by engineers with vast industrial experience and close relationships with some of the region's largest engineering employers.

Entry requirements

Two GCSEs at Grade E-F, including Maths or Science. An interview with a course tutor is also required.


Assessment is by coursework and practical assignments.

Progression & Careers

The BTEC Certificate in Engineering combined with PEO Level 1 course allows you to gain the skills you need to progress to a higher-level engineering course, seek an apprenticeship or simply enjoy working within an engineering environment. You may be able to progress onto a Level 2 engineering qualification. You will gain expertise on this course that will provide you with the essential components for an Engineering career.
