HNC in Health and Social Care // Level 4
The HNC in Health and Social Care course provides you with specialist vocational learning reflecting the requirements of professional organisations and meeting the National Occupational Standards for each sector or industry. The programme is designed to reflect the balance of skills and knowledge needed to perform tasks competently in the Health and Social Care sector, to balance and integrate theory and practice so that the qualification supports career prospects and academic progression. Staff are health and social care practitioners with a wealth of industry experience to reflect the nature of current practice in the health and social care industry.

You will need to have successfully completed studies at Level 3. You should also hold at least a GCSE grade C or equivalent in English and you should have some experience of working either voluntarily or in employment within the health and social care sector. BTEC Higher Nationals are a suitable option for anyone progressing from Level 3 study.
Individuals may have completed A Levels, a BTEC National (or another equivalent qualification), have come straight from Level 3 study or have spent time in the workplace. An interview is required.
You will produce a portfolio of assignments and work products which demonstrate you are able to apply theory to practice. You will also be required to complete at least 200 hours in placement or employment within a Health & Social Care setting alongside your course.
Progression & Careers
This HNC may support you in making a career change or in developing within your existing career. This course may help you with progression towards a managerial position in the care sector or you can also progress into higher level degree studies. There are a variety of rewarding careers working with adults and/or children in the community as well as many options within Higher E Education in related fields such as: Nursing, Social Work, Teaching Psychology, Sociology, Health studies, Social Policy, or Health Care Management.
