The course for you if ...
You want to gain an understanding of the sports sector to either start a career in sport, leisure or fitness, or progress within employment in the sector.
In addition to gaining essential skills valued by employers, you will develop knowledge across a wide range of sport topics.
As part of the course, you will choose a pathway rom the following 4 options:
Sport, Exercise and Fitness
- Participating in sport
- Anatomy and physiology for exercise
- Introduction to health exercise and nutrition
Outdoors
- Participating in sport
- Outdoor and adventurous activities
- Leading an outdoor activity session
Working in sport
- Participating in sport
- Understanding business in sport
- Preparing to work in the sport and leisure industry
Coaching
- Participating in sport
- Sports coaching
- Developing sporting skills and tactical awareness
Entry Requirements
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade D (3) or above (with at least one at Grade C (4) or above, or a successful pass at Level 1 Sport and 1 GCSE at Grade D (3) or above. You can progress from a relevant Level 1 qualification. An interview with a course tutor and a reference from a personal tutor are also required.
Assessment
Assessment is coursework based using a variety of methods including oral exams, practical demonstrations, presentations, reports, role plays and observations.
Progression & Careers
You could progress onto a Level 3 sport qualification if you achieve at least a MERIT on this course.
