Sport & Exercise Sciences // Level 3
The course for you if ...
you love sport and exercise but would like to learn about the science behind them with subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology and Psychology.
What will I study?
Throughout the two-year course, you’ll cover a wide range of subjects that will broaden your scientific understanding about sport. You will study topics, including: Anatomy; Psychology; Sports coaching; Fitness
testing; Fitness training; Nutrition; Biomechanics; Exercise for specific groups; Sports injuries; Sports massage; and a research project.
As well as classroom-based learning, you will visit universities and sports centres, as well as delivering practical sessions in local schools and visiting venues that will add an important practical element to your studies.
Minimum of 6 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English Language, Maths and Science; or Level 2 Sport at Distinction Level along with Cs or above in English Language, Maths and Science. An interview with a course tutor and a reference from a personal tutor are also required.
You'll be assessed through your coursework, which includes: projects, group presentations and practical work.
Progression & Careers
You could progress onto a wide range of university degrees in areas such a Physiotherapy, Sport & Exercise Science, Sports Coaching, Sports Management, Sports Therapy, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Psychology and Sports Nutrition. You also have the option to study a Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching or Exercise Health & Fitness at TyneMet, awarded by the University of Sunderland.
Careers include: Teaching, Sport and Exercise Therapy, Physiotherapy, Sports Nutrition, Personal Training, Strength and Conditioning Coaching, Sport Psychology, Performance Analysis and Health Promotion work.
