Higher Education Loans
As a TyneMet undergraduate student, you may qualify for a range of financial support to help you with your HE studies. You can apply for a student loan to help pay tuition fees and a maintenance loan to help with living expenses. You may also qualify for a number of different grants (eligibility criteria apply).
If you have learning difficulties and/or disabilities you may be entitled to disabled student allowance (DSA) to help with the costs of the support that you may require whilst studying with us. For more information on DSA go to: https://www.gov.uk/disabled-students-allowances-dsas/overview.
For more general information about the support available through Student Finance go to: https://www.gov.uk/student-finance/overview.
Higher Education Scholarships
If you are studying on a University of Sunderland programme at Tyne Metropolitan College you may be eligible for a scholarship through the University. Further information is available here.
Advanced Learning Loans (24+)
24+ Advanced Learning Loans are similar to Higher Education loans, but are for Further Education (FE) students studying a certificate or diploma at level 3 or 4. The 24+ Advanced Learning Loan is accessible for students aged 24 years or above, studying on a number of FE courses including Access to Higher Education programmes.
You don’t need to pay anything back until you start earning over £21,000 per year, however if your loan is for an Access to Higher Education programme and you progress to complete a Higher Education programme, you will not pay back your FE loan at all.
For more information about the 24+ Advanced Learning Loans go to: https://www.gov.uk/advanced-learning-loans/overview.
24+ Advanced Learning Loan Bursary Fund
The 24+ Advanced Learning Loans Bursary Fund is to support students who have had a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan approved by the Student Loan Company for a level 3 or level 4 certificate or diploma and who have a household income of less than £30,000. The fund is used to support students with travelling expenses, childcare, additional learning support (ALS) and cases of extreme hardship.
