Future North East engineers and construction sector workers can take their first steps to training through two Tyne Metropolitan College open events taking place from 3pm to 7pm on Tuesday, March 6.

Information about engineering apprenticeships and careers available at our Ignite Centre for Engineering & Innovation, based at our Coast Road Campus in Wallsend.

Our experts will be joined by those from engineering and manufacturing specialist Tyne North Training, and there will be talks and tours of our state-of-the-art facilities for those who attend.

At the same time, our sector-leading TMC construction centre, in Benton, Newcastle, will welcome those looking to access a career in construction, including but not limited to apprenticeships.

TMC specialises in delivering hands-on skills that equip people for work in building services, which includes bricklaying, plastering, plumbing and electrical.

It has a wide range of courses starting at various times throughout the year, with full-time, part-time and apprenticeship opportunities.

Mick Burton, Head of Engineering at TyneMet, said: “These events offer people of all ages the chance to get a real feel for training and employment within these vitally important sectors.

“Both are suffering from skills gaps, which means there really are great employment opportunities out there for people prepared to study and work hard.

“Engineering and construction are key industries that provide well paid and interesting professional careers.

“TyneMet and our partners deliver the skills that open the door to these tremendous opportunities, and I urge people not to miss out.

“School-leavers, the unemployed and adults in work but seeking new opportunities, can benefit greatly by finding out how TyneMet can support their skills development.

“At both sites on the day, they can get all the information they need about how to train and gain the skills that will support them throughout their careers.”

The Ignite Centre for Engineering & Innovation, in Embleton Drive, Wallsend, delivers a comprehensive range of training in engineering and STEM disciplines, aimed at increasing skills in North East manufacturing.

As well as supporting students, the centre delivers accredited and bespoke training direct to industry on demand.

The TMC campus, at Units 40 and 41 Bellingham Drive, North Tyne Industrial Estate, Whitley Road, offers one of the widest packages of construction-based training in the region.

It delivers apprenticeships to 16 to 18-year-olds, and flexible courses for adults looking to re-train, upskill or begin a career in the construction and building services sector.

Wallsend-based Tyne North Training is a specialist in the field of engineering manufacturing, supplying a comprehensive training and support package to employers and learners.
