On Friday 9th September, Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College opened its doors to welcome new and returning students to celebrate Freshers' Day.

A multitude of students attended the Fair, receiving their College goody bags and were given information, guidance and freebies from the many stall holders.

Delicious 'Fair Trade' biscuits, chocolate and cookies were on offer from the Co-op.

The Student Support Service at Queen Alexandra gave advice and information to students who may need additional learning support to help them with their course work, other College staff were also on hand to answer the many questions relating to subjects such as student finance, student welfare or counselling.

Specialist Sexual Health Nurses and a Young Man's Youth Worker were at the event to promote the Contraception and Sexual Health Advice Clinic held at QA for the students each Friday 9am - 12pm.

Staff from NESA (North East Sports Academy) at the College talked to students about free membership to NESA on offer to all Queen Alexandra and TyneMet full-time students, no matter which subject they are studying.   The specialist team at NESA are able to provide exciting coaching opportunities in the sporting disciplines of football (men's and women's), basketball, rugby and badminton.

Denise Bolton, Head of Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College, said

"Freshers' Day was a huge success; the students interacted and engaged with all of the stall holders and were able to get easy access to some important information that will help them during their time at QA.  This is a 'first time' College experience for some of our new students;  Freshers' Day is an important part of their induction process, helping them integrate into the College environment in fun and relaxed atmosphere."
