A group of TyneMet students have been turning to crime…to test out the local police force!

Uniformed Services students found themselves on the wrong side of the law with many ending up behind bars.

But it was all part of a training exercise to test out the facilities at the brand new North Tyneside police station which opened recently. The £27m complex on Middle Engine Lane, close to the College, is the base for 300 officers and staff.

TyneMet students took part in role play activities to make sure the operation was running smoothly before dealing with some 'real-life' criminals.

Their Team Leader, Mal Bowering said: "This was great experience for our students, many of whom may join the police service. They witnessed the real thing. Some students were questioned in an interview room, several of them were put in a cell which some found very uncomfortable, even claustrophobic."

On one visit, 40 students ended up filling the cells in order to test the processes and procedures to the extreme.
