On Wednesday 12th October, TyneMet College Football Team, travelled to Barnsley to take on Barnsley College in an ECFA Premier League game.  The match ended in a 3-3 draw, TyneMet more than happy with the point they gained.

Starting strong in the opening period, TyneMet, at 6 minutes in, had a chance when David Brown was set free, only to shoot straight at the home keeper.

Barnsley took the first corner and the lead when the ball swung left; the visiting defence went missing and allowed the header to settle in the bottom corner of the goal.

TyneMet responded with a Mark Kelly header that was cleared off the line and they equalised at 32 minutes when Brown fed Young who, from a close range made no mistake.

Barnsley took the lead again in the second half and then extended their lead at  69 minutes when a cross from the right found their striker unmarked in the box and he finished well from close range.

Barnsley did threaten further goals as TyneMet pushed for a way back into the game and the home side were unfortunate when a legitimate goal was somehow ruled out by the referee.

With 4 minutes remaining it looked like TyneMet had gained a consolation goal when Mark Kelly slid in to finish a John Grey free kick.

With TyneMet now playing direct in search for the equaliser it looked as though this would come when Young picked up on the loose ball; however his heavy touch allowed the keeper to pounce and clear the danger.

In the added on injury time, a long hopeful ball up the field was not dealt with by the home defence and with the keeper stranded after his poor headed clearance, the ball dropped to the feet of Andrew Beadling who lobbed the ball back over the keeper and into the back of the net!

Final Score Barnsley College 3 - 3 TyneMet College
