National Role for Joe

TyneMet student, Joe Danquah has been selected for a top national sporting role. Joe, 18 from Newcastle has been appointed as a National Ambassador for British Sports Colleges - the organisation which represents the sporting interests of students and Colleges across the UK.

Joe, who comes originally from Holland, is studying at TyneMet. Another student, Colin Bell is a Regional Ambassador. Thousands of students apply each year to become a National Ambassador with just ten selected for the top job.

Students Get England Call-Up

Two students have been selected by Basketball England for the latest Under 18 squad.

17 year old students, Lamar Morrison and Ross Wilson will be heading to training camp in Loughborough next month.

The players are also team members of the TyneMet Titans and Newcastle Eagles.

Lamar, who comes from Birmingham but chose to study at TyneMet because of the expert coaching he receives from the college's North East Sports Academy said: "It was a nice surprise getting the call-up. I didn't make it last year but I've been working hard and that seems to have paid off."

Ready, Steady, Cook!

TyneMet's training kitchens were recently taken over by staff from Proctor and Gamble. Teams from the company battled it out in a 'Ready, Steady, Cook' competition.

 It was a busy evening, with the groups competing to prepare the perfect main course using TyneMet's brand new facilities.

 It must have been a good night as this was some of the feedback from those taking part…

College Helping Student Realise Olympic Dream

TyneMet College is providing sporting expertise to help one of its new students reach her goal of Olympic glory.

16 year old Hannah Lewis is already a junior judo champion both nationally and internationally. Last weekend, she became under-78kg champion at the National Judo Championships in Sheffield. Hannah now hopes this will lead to a place in the under 19 squad which will see her compete in major international competitions
