Art & Design Students Head To University

A group of Queen Alex students are heading straight to university rather than having to complete a foundation course because their work is of such a high standard.

It's very unusual for this to happen in art and design 'A' level courses and staff and students at Queen Alex are delighted that lots of hard work has paid off.

Kimberley Brown is going to Northumbria University to study BA (Hons) Animation and Design. She says: "I was quite surprised I got in straightaway. After university, I'd like a career in film or game animation."

Politicians Questioned By Students

With just a few days to the general election, Queen Alex and TyneMet students put their questions to some of the candidates hoping to become MP for Tynemouth by the end of the week.

The Question Time event was hosted by Real Radio presenter, Jonathan Morrell who has quizzed quite a few politicians in his time on both radio and TV, including Sky News and ITN.

The panel was made up of Labour's Alan Campbell, Julia Erskine from the Green Party, Wendy Morton for the Conservatives and Natasha Payne from UKIP.

The Recipe For Success

Cookery students at TyneMet should be "tremendously proud of themselves", according to their teacher.

It follows two days of award-winning work by representatives of the college at the North East Culinary Trade awards.

Senior Lecturer, Lynn Mitchinson says sheer hard work and determination led to a list of medal winning performances in front of expert judges and a 400-strong audience at the event at Gosforth Park Racecourse.

And Lynn put in a huge effort herself to come third in the professional competition to find 'North East Chef of the Year.'
