Think First - NUFC Deliver Powerful Message on Challenging Derby Violence

Christmas leaves most in a plethora of excitement - the chance to celebrate, catch up with family and friends means for many, the holiday season is the most wonderful time of all. On the 21th December it was the last derby Premier League football match of the year between neighbouring cities;Newcastle and Sunderland. Sunderland had won the last three derby matches and tensions were running high. Northumbria Police and Police and Crime Commissioner Vera Baird launched a new campaign 'A derby to be proud of' tackling football violence and raising awareness that football can be fun and passionate without the hatred. In recognition of the campaign TyneMet invited NUFC Foundation, who are working with Northumbria Police, to deliver their initiative 'Building Bridges' to students.

Engineering Marvel in the Making Celebrates with Siemens Award.

Budding engineers of the future were acknowledged for their outstanding efforts, passion and willingness towards engineering as they were recognised in the newly formed Sir Williams Siemens Certificate.  This is the first time that colleges have been invited to enter and with our longstanding partnership with Siemens, TyneMet College nominated engineering student, Tony Brown, who has shown a tireless commitment to academic studies and vigour for progressing with a career in engineering.

Batting high – NESA Badminton Champion celebrates regional success

From an early age, GaryLee McMullen a keen badminton player showed a passion, talent and a hunger to get ahead. Competing nationally from the age of 12, head hunted by county teams, battling it out in national tournaments and currently representing Northumberland - GaryLee has experienced a great start to life as a sportsman - choosing Tyne Metropolitan College to continue his love of the sport, GaryLee, a Level 3 Sports Coaching and Fitness student and part of the NESA Badminton team, was recently awarded the ‘Young Sports Achievement Award’ which recognises over achievers for their commitment to sports and the community.
