Introduction to Beauty Therapy (Diploma)
Level 1
Course Overview
Level 1 Beauty is an introductory course designed for individuals passionate about entering the dynamic field of beauty and skincare. This course provides students with essential knowledge and practical skills to kickstart their journey in the beauty industry. Through a combination of theoretical learning and hands-on practice, students will gain a strong foundation in basic beauty techniques and principles.
During the course, students will develop communication and employability skills as well as the opportunity to have a taster of the many different areas of beauty therapy. There will be the option of studying the Level 1 Certificate or Level 1 Diploma and the right option for you will be discussed with the course leader.
To be able to study the course, you will need a GCSE grade 2 or above in Maths and English or a functional skills level 1 in English and maths
ESOL students will need an Entry 3 level in English or above.
Assessment is based on practical demonstrations and written assignments.
On completion of the course, you can progress onto the Level 2 Certificate or Diploma in Beauty Therapy.
Units on the Diploma include:
- Introduction to the hair and beauty sector (mandatory unit)
- Presenting a professional image in a salon (mandatory unit)
- Provide basic manicure
- Provide basic pedicure
- Nail art application
- Hand care
- Skin care
- Themed face painting
- Basic makeup
- Create a hair & beauty image
- Salon reception duties
- Follow health & safety in the salon
- Working with others
Units on the Certificate:
The Level 1 Certificate includes the 2 mandatory units and 3 optional units – these will be discussed with the course leader.
For students aged 16-18 who have not yet achieved a grade 4 in Maths or English, these subjects will be included in your timetable along with your main course. Improving your skills in Maths and English is essential, as these qualifications open doors to further study and career opportunities.
Our teaching team will work with you to help you achieve the grades you need, building confidence in these key areas to support your future success.
All 16-18 students must study maths and/or English as part of their main study programme, there is no option to study maths and/or English on its own.
