Blyth Spartans AFC Football Excellence Programme – Level 3
This course is for you if...
You want a career within the football or sport industry and have a passion for and strong ability in football.
In partnership with Blyth Spartans AFC, this course will allow you to complete an NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity while training and learning in a professional football environment.
The course is based at the outstanding Cochrane Park, Newcastle University providing you with the opportunity to develop as a player, and learn and work with an experienced workforce to develop industry specific skills and part-time employment opportunities.
You will also examine the ethics and values in Sport, the role of the professional sportsperson, sports psychology and the principles of coaching. You will have opportunities to access sport specific coaching and officiating awards via our North East Sports Academy (NESA).
Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C (4) or above, including English and Maths OR Merit in a Sport qualification at Level 2 along with C’s (4’s) at GCSE in English and Maths. An interview with a course tutor and a reference from a personal tutor are required. You will also need to be successful at TyneMet’s Football Excellence programme trials.
You will be assessed through your coursework, which includes projects, group presentations and practical work. There will also be a range of externally assessed units which will be in the form of an external exam as well as a controlled assessment.
You could progress onto a wide range of university degrees in areas such as:
Sport & Exercise Science, Sports Coaching, Sports Development, Sports Management, Sports Therapy, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Psychology or Sports Nutrition. You also have the option to study a Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching or Exercise Health & Fitness at TyneMet, awarded by the University of Sunderland. Careers include: Teacher, Professional Football Coach, Sport Development Officer, Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, Health Promotion Worker Sport/Health/Leisure Centre Manager, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Sport Psychologist, Performance Analyst, Referee, Talent Project Co-ordinator, Football Development Manager or Sports Therapist.
