Extended Diploma in Rugby Excellence (Womens Academy) – Level 3
This course is for you if...
You want a career in the sport or Rugby industry and have a passion for and a strong ability within Rugby.
Based the Kingston Park Stadium, not only will you complete a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Rugby Excellence, but you will also have the opportunity to train and learn within a professional Rugby environment. You will train like a professional with expert coaches and learn integral dual coded Rugby techniques. You will experience physiotherapy, sports massage, media training and post-game video analysis whilst taking part in a wide range of work experience opportunities.
You will also examine the ethics and values in Sport, the role of the professional sportsperson, sports psychology and the principles of coaching. You will have the option to complete a Level 1 Rugby Coaching Award, First Aid and a Referee’s Award. You will also complete a Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing which will enable you to work in the fitness industry. Newcastle Rugby Academy also offers excellent progression routes through links with Northumbria University.
This course is delivered at Kingston Park Stadium.
Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C (4) or above, including English and Maths OR Merit in a Sport qualification at Level 2 along with C/4 at GCSE in English and Maths. An interview with a course tutor is required and you will need to be successful at TyneMet’s Rugby Excellence programme trials.
Depending on which pathway you choose, you will be assessed through exams as well as coursework, which includes projects, group presentations, podcasts and practical work.
You could progress onto a wide range of university degrees in areas such as: Sport & Exercise Science, Sports Coaching, Sports Development, Sports Management, Sports Therapy, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Psychology or Sports Nutrition.
You also have the option to progress onto a Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching or Exercise Health & Fitness at TyneMet, awarded by the University of Sunderland.
