Diploma in Engineering – Fabrication & Welding Technology
Level 2
Course Overview
This course is designed for those who plan to increase their practical and theory knowledge of a range of welding processes, thermal cutting and fabrication within our industry leading practical training facilities whilst preparing themselves for entry into the welding & fabrication industry or a related apprenticeship.
Units covered will include:
- Unit 214 Welding by MIG Process
- Unit 218 Fabricating Thick Plate, Bar & Sections
- Unit 215 Welding by TIG process
- Unit 212 Principles of Fabrication & Welding Technology
- Unit 202 Principles of Engineering Technology
- Unit 201 Working in Engineering
You will be working in excellent facilities, using industry-standard equipment safely and you’ll be taught by engineers with vast industry experience and close relationships with some of the region’s largest employers.
To study the course, you will need at least two GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including maths and English or a relevant Level 1 Engineering qualification.
Assessment will be via the City & Guilds online multiple-choice exam, short answer question papers and college based assignments which contain practical and knowledge tasks.
The Level 2 Diploma in Fabrication & Welding Technology (2850-26) allows you to gain the skills you need to progress onto the Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence), Level 3 Diploma in Engineering – Maintenance, Installation and Commissioning, or an Apprenticeship with Tyne Coast College, Tyne North Training or another apprenticeship training provider.
You will gain expertise on this course that will provide you with the essential components of an engineering career, especially within fabrication and welding
For students aged 16-18 who have not yet achieved a grade 4 in Maths or English, these subjects will be included in your timetable along with your main course. Improving your skills in Maths and English is essential, as these qualifications open doors to further study and career opportunities.
Our teaching team will work with you to help you achieve the grades you need, building confidence in these key areas to support your future success.
All 16-18 students must study maths and/or English as part of their main study programme, there is no option to study maths and/or English on its own.
