HND in General Engineering
Level 5
Course Overview
This course is a general Higher National Diploma however there is an option to focus on either electrical or mechanical.
You will learn using a range of industry standard equipment to make sure that you can perfect the techniques you need and understand the technical knowledge appropriate to this level of higher education.
The course is also intended to support progression to local or national university degree programmes (check locally with university of application).
Modules on this course include:
- Lean Manufacturing
- Further Mathematics
- Advanced Manufacturing Technology
- Virtual Engineering
- Further Electrical, Electronic and Digital Principles (electrical students only)
- Advanced Mechanical Principles (mechanical students only)
- Professional Engineering Management
- Research Project
You will need an HNC in a relevant engineering subject, both QCF and RQF qualifications are accepted.
You will also need to attend an informal interview with the course tutor.
As this is a BTEC qualification, there will only be assessments – no exams.
Each unit contains around four assessments.
On completion of the HND, you will be able to progress to an engineering related degree or to employment as a graduate/trainee engineer.
