Level 3
Course Overview
The Level 3 Hairdressing Certification Program is designed to equip students with advanced skills and knowledge in the field of hairdressing, preparing them for a successful career as professional hairdressers or stylists. This comprehensive course builds upon the foundational principles learned in Level 2 courses, delving deeper into advanced cutting, coloring, styling techniques, client consultation, and salon management.
Students will train in an industry-standard commercial salon environment, with real clients and customers to help develop advanced skills and understand team building and customer service skills to fully prepare for working in the industry.
There will be the option of studying the Level 3 Certificate or Level 3 Diploma and the right option for you will be discussed with the course leader.
To study the course, you will need a GCSE maths and/or English grade 3 and above or a functional skills maths and/or English Level 1.
16–19-year-old learners will be required to continue with maths and English until a grade 4 or above is achieved.
You will need a Level 2 in hairdressing.
You may also be required to complete a practical skills assessment if a there is a gap in learning.
Our admissions team will also arrange an informal telephone interview with the course tutor.
Assessment is based on practical competency, graded assessments and external online tests.
On successful completion of this course, you will be qualified to progress into a job in the industry as a junior stylist/stylist. You will also have the option to further enhance your skills and knowledge by progressing to Level 4 Hairdressing, or an apprenticeship. Careers include salon employment or self-employment as a stylist.

- Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
- Consultation support for colleagues on hair services
- Style and dress hair using a variety of techniques
- Colour hair to create a variety of looks
- Hair colour correction
- Cut women’s hair to create a variety of looks
- Creative hairdressing design skills
- Scalp massage service
