Sector-based Work Academy Programme – Learning Support Assistant
Course Overview
Sector-Based Work Academy Programmes (SWAP) are innovative training initiatives designed to bridge the gap between job seekers and employment opportunities within specific industries. These programs offer a comprehensive blend of sector-specific training, employability skills development, and real-world work experience to prepare individuals for successful entry into the workforce.
The duration of SWAP varies based on the specific industry focus and the depth of training required. Typically, programs last between 2 to 6 weeks, comprising a mix of classroom instruction, practical training, and work placements.
Developing Employability Skills
In addition to technical skills, SWAPs place a strong emphasis on developing core employability skills. Students receive training in areas such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, and customer service, enhancing their overall readiness for employment.
We’re currently running a SWAP for Learning Support Assistants. The programme is designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the role of supporting learners in educational settings. This programme focuses on developing knowledge within Children and Young People’s Mental Health as well as Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values.
As part of the programme, students will also benefit from guest speakers who will share their experiences of the role as well as offer an insight into their journey.
Students will also undertake real life work experience with the support of an experienced LSA mentor. Work experience will be focused on supporting High Needs, EHCP, vulnerable learners with a range of physical, learning and emotional difficulties.
Following successful competition of the SWAP, students will be offered a guaranteed interview for the role as Learning Support Assistant at TyneMet College.
