T LEVELS

Get access to bright, emerging talent through a new government programme called ‘T Levels’. A two-year placement designed to help 16-18-year-old students gain their level 3 qualification by developing skills and knowledge in your industry.

We’re looking for North East employers to team up with us and take part in our T Level project to see how industry placements could help their business as students contribute and support their workforce. You’ll have students in the workplace for 350 hours, working out at around 45 days, with a dedicated college adviser supporting them throughout the entire placement.

By becoming an industry placement partner, it gives you a great opportunity to work with enthusiastic, keen students, who can bring new ideas to your business.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s different about industry placements?

These differ from standard work experience placements as they must be related to a student’s chosen area of study. Placements last for a minimum of 315 hours across an academic year which means the student can develop the skills they really need to progress in your industry sector after college.

Will they be making the tea and photocopying?

No! Industry placements are all about providing technical and sector specific skills and spending more time with you as an employer. It means the student can work on projects that help them gain the experience they need to start their career in your industry.

Will I have to pay them?

Industry placements are about providing the student with high quality, meaningful training, not work. Therefore, they are not entitled to a salary as the placement is forming part of a course of further education. There is no legal requirement or expectation that industry placement students will be paid. However, employers may pay the student should you wish to, or support them with their travel and subsistence costs.
