Course Overview

This beginner-level course is the perfect starting point for anyone looking to explore a career in the exciting world of hair and beauty. Perfect for students with little to no experience, the course provides a comprehensive introduction to the key skills, techniques, and industry knowledge required to progress in this dynamic sector.

 

 

You’ll gain hands-on experience in practical tasks and develop essential customer service and professional skills, setting the foundation for further training or employment opportunities.

 

You will study topics including:

  • Introduction to the hair & beauty sector
  • Presenting a professional image in a salon
  • Shampoo & conditioning
  • Hair plaiting
  • Styling women’s hair

Under 19

4 GCSE at grade 2 or above including maths

And GCSE English at grade 2 or above.

Over 19

Subject to interview with course tutor

Assessment is based on practical demonstrations and written assignments.

On successful completion of this course, you will receive a City & Guilds Certificate in Hairdressing.

The Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector qualifications can open doors to a wide variety of roles, including:

  • Salon Assistant/ junior/ apprenticeship

Following completion of this qualification, you can progress onto a Level 1 VRQ Diploma or Level I VRQ Beauty Therapy.

For students aged 16-18 who have not yet achieved a grade 4 in Maths or English, these subjects will be included in your timetable along with your main course. Improving your skills in Maths and English is essential, as these qualifications open doors to further study and career opportunities.

Our teaching team will work with you to help you achieve the grades you need, building confidence in these key areas to support your future success.

All 16-18 students must study maths and/or English as part of their main study programme, there is no option to study maths and/or English on its own.
