Level 1 Award in Skills for Creative Industries: Graphic Design

Course Overview

This beginner-friendly graphic design course is perfect for those with little or no prior experience who want to develop their skills. You’ll explore the tools, materials, and techniques used by modern graphic designers, including visual language, wet and dry media (paint, pencil, pen), digital editing, thumbnail sketches, and colorways.

You’ll build a portfolio by generating ideas from your own drawings, photos, artist research, and products like magazines, adverts, or game covers. This process will involve considering target audiences, purpose, branding, key messages, and client requests. Through mind maps and design layouts, you’ll develop creative concepts while managing budgets, timelines, and resources.

You’ll learn to create, edit, and refine digital assets while respecting copyright laws, and you’ll review your work based on feedback to identify areas for improvement as you prepare for Level 2 studies.

Top pieces will feature in our end-of-year art show alongside Level 3 and HE student work.
