The game was closely contested, but a powerful performance secured the win, putting the team in a strong position early in the season.
Meanwhile, our Basketball Academy, in partnership with Newcastle Eagles, delivered an impressive performance in the AoC Basketball Cup. They triumphed over St. Cuthbert’s in an exciting game, with captain Harry Steele leading by example with a standout display.
In football action, our campus football team began their NECL league journey in spectacular fashion, beating Newcastle College 3-9 in their first game of the season. After last year’s success, the team is looking to build on their momentum, and this victory certainly shows it.
Not to be outdone, our Blyth Spartans U18 Academy progressed to the next round of the FA Youth Cup with a dominant 0-5 win over Hartlepool United at Victoria Park Stadium. Academy player, Luke Parker stole the spotlight with a five-star performance, earning praise for his amazing contribution to the team’s success.
Reflecting on the day’s achievements, Ben Pollock, the Deputy Head of Sport Academies, expressed his delight at the start to the season:
It was an incredible day for all of our academies, and I couldn’t be prouder of the teams. The hard work in pre-season has paid off, and it’s exciting to see such strong performances early on. This is just the beginning, and we’re looking forward to what the rest of the season holds for our athletes. These victories show the level of talent and dedication we have across all our sports academies.
