Now, you can learn YOUR way with our brand new range of Distance Learning courses.
Whether you’re looking to pursue a passion, pick up a hobby or start a new career, you can enjoy the flexibility of learning where and when you want.
We welcome all Distance Learning applications over the festive break. However, please be aware that your application will not be processed until the college re-opens for teaching on January 7th.
Distance learning is simply online learning.
It is similar to studying at college but you will study in your own time, at your own pace with all resources available online alongside the support and guidance from specialist tutors.
If work or home commitments are preventing you from coming to college, our range of distance learning courses are a perfect fit to suit individual lifestyles.
Our distance learning courses cover a wide range of study topics including Counselling Skills, Business Administration, Alcohol Awareness, Understanding Autism plus many more.
With over 40 courses to choose from, the opportunities are almost endless.

Most of our distance learning courses are free for those who are eligible.
To meet the criteria, you must be:
- 19+ (on 31st August 2024)
- Living in the North East Combined Authority region (postcodes in County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland)
- Lived in UK for 3 years or more other than for study
- Not enrolled on any other government funded education programme with the college or any other provider
- Not completed the course previously
You will also need to upload some ID (passport, driving license, birth certificate) and for low wage / unemployed applicants, evidence of income / receipt of benefits (payslip, P60, benefit statement, etc, dated within 3 months). Evidence will be destroyed after enrolment in accordance with GDPR
Following completion of the course, you will receive a recognised qualification completed within 12 weeks.
Please note: there may be a withdrawal fee of £75 if you do not complete the course within specified time.
Your study will all be delivered online with the guidance and support from our specialist course tutors.
You will complete assessments and coursework all online without the need to come to college.
You will also receive a recognised qualification following completion of the course.

*Learners should only sign up to 1 course at a time and complete this course prior to enrolling on another one.
*This course is accredited by City and Guilds and examinations can be sat remotely providing your PC complies with the software requirements. Alternatively, the examinations can be sat in either TyneMet College or South Tyneside College and your tutor will advise on this after enrolment.
