The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Working with Children in Early Years and Primary Settings is a foundational course designed for individuals interested in pursuing a career in childcare and education. This qualification provides students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to support the care and education of young children, from birth to 11 years old. It is ideal for those looking to work in early years settings, nurseries, primary schools, or as teaching assistants.

 

 

This qualification provides students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to support the care and education of young children, from birth to 11 years old. It is ideal for those looking to work in early years settings, nurseries, primary schools, or as teaching assistants.

 

This qualification is suitable for a range of learners from the age of 16 onwards who have little or no experience in childcare.

To study the course, you will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade D (3) or above (preferably including English); or pass at BTEC Level 1 Certificate or equivalent; or progression from a relevant Level 1 qualification.
You will also need to attend an informal interview with the course tutor.
A DBS check and two confidential references and the ability to work in demanding placement settings are necessary.

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. This could include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task.

Some learning outcomes within this qualification will require assessment in a real work environment.

On successful completion of the course, you could progress to the T Level in Childcare and Education or straight to employment in the following roles:

  • Nursery assistant
  • Classroom assistant
  • Pre-school assistant
As part of the course, you will take part two placements, one in an early years setting and one in a primary school. These placements are an important part of the course to allow you to develop your confidence and skills in a workplace setting.
