Level 2
Course Overview
The Level 2 Hairdressing Course is designed to provide students with comprehensive training in the foundational skills and knowledge required for a career in hairdressing. Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical hands-on experience, students will develop proficiency in a range of hairdressing techniques, including cutting, coloring, styling, and client consultation.
Students will train in an industry-standard commercial salon environment, with real clients and customers, and develop communication skills as well as understand team building and customer service skills to fully prepare for the world of work.
There will be the option of studying the Level 2 Certificate or Level 2 Diploma and the right option for you will be discussed with the course leader.
To study the course, you will need a level 1 Hairdressing qualification or equivalent.
GCSE maths and/or English grade 3 and above or a functional skills maths and/or English Level 1.
16–19-year-old learners will be required to continue with maths and English until a grade 4 or above is achieved.
You may also be required to complete a practical skills assessment.
Assessment is based on a combination of practical competency, graded assessments and external online tests.
On successful completion of this course, you will be qualified to progress into a job in the industry as a junior stylist. You will also have the option to further enhance your skills and knowledge by progressing to Level 3 Hairdressing. Careers include salon employment or self-employment as a stylist.
During your studies, our team of experienced and dedicated staff will teach you all you need to know including the following units:
- Shampoo and condition hair and scalp
- Client consultation for hair services
- Working in the hair industry
- The art of dressing hair
- Cut women’s hair
- Perming
- Colour and lighten hair
- Follow health and safety practice
- Display stock
- Salon reception duties
- Promote products and services to clients
- Plaiting & twisting hair
Under 19s will also be required to study GCSE English & Maths
For students aged 16-18 who have not yet achieved a grade 4 in Maths or English, these subjects will be included in your timetable along with your main course. Improving your skills in Maths and English is essential, as these qualifications open doors to further study and career opportunities.
Our teaching team will work with you to help you achieve the grades you need, building confidence in these key areas to support your future success.
All 16-18 students must study maths and/or English as part of their main study programme, there is no option to study maths and/or English on its own.
