Extended Diploma in Sport Exercise Sciences – Level 3
This course is for you if...
You love sport and exercise but would like to learn about the science behind them with subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology and Psychology. Throughout the two-year course, you’ll cover a wide range of subjects that will broaden your scientific understanding about sport.
You will study topics including: Anatomy, Psychology, Sports Coaching, Fitness Training and Testing, Nutrition, Biomechanics, Exercise for Specific Groups, Sports Injuries, Sports Massage and a Research Project.
As well as classroom-based learning, you will also visit universities, sports centres, deliver practical sessions in local schools and visit venues that will add an all-important practical element to your studies.
You will experience a wide range of individuals who currently work within the field of sports science. This involves a wide range of trips and guest speakers which include e.g. Exercise physiologists, physiotherapists, university lecturers and biomechanists.
Minimum of 6 GCSEs at Grade C (4) or above, including English, maths and Science.Level 2 students must have English, maths and Science at grade C (4) or above and level 2 Sport at distinction level. You will also need to provide a reference from a personal tutor.
You will be assessed through your coursework, which includes projects, group presentations and practical work.
You could progress onto a wide range of university degrees in areas such as:
Physiotherapy, Sport & Exercise Science, Sports Coaching, Sports Management, Sports Therapy, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Psychology or Sports Nutrition.You also have the option to study a Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching or Exercise Health & Fitness at TyneMet, awarded by the University of Sunderland. Careers include: Teacher, Sport and Exercise Therapist, Physiotherapist, Sports Nutritionist, Personal Trainer, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Sport Psychologist, Performance Analyst and Health Promotion Worker.
