Diploma in Barbering – Level 2
Course Overview
Our Level 2 Barbering course will help prepare you for your future career and help you learn all of the basic skills and techniques you need to provide cutting, styling services to men.
You’ll learn from experienced experts in our industry-standard hair salon, using leading industry manufacturers products while developing your skills on real paying clients.
You will learn the knowledge of working in the barbering industry and develop skills and techniques in everything from consulting clients to shampooing and conditioning, cutting and styling hair to shaping facial hair.
To study the course, you will need a GCSE maths and/or English grade 3 and above or a functional skills maths and/or English Level 1.
16–19-year-old learners will be required to continue with maths and English until a grade 4 or above is achieved.
The level 2 Barbering qualification expects learners to have excellent communication skills and an enthusiastic approach to providing professional treatments to a range of clients within the barbering environment.
As part of the course, you will study the following units:
- Advise and consult with clients
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
- Cut Men’s hair using basic techniques
- Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
- Dry and finish men’s hair
- Create basic outlines and detailing the hair
- Colour and lighten men’s hair
You will be assessed using a variety of assessment methods. This will include summative practical assessments, oral questions and exams.
Following successful completion of the course, potential progression can lead onto employment within the barbering industry.
For students aged 16-18 who have not yet achieved a grade 4 in Maths or English, these subjects will be included in your timetable along with your main course. Improving your skills in Maths and English is essential, as these qualifications open doors to further study and career opportunities.
Our teaching team will work with you to help you achieve the grades you need, building confidence in these key areas to support your future success.
All 16-18 students must study maths and/or English as part of their main study programme, there is no option to study maths and/or English on its own.
