Higher Technical Qualifications in Health Care

What is an HTQ?

Higher Technical Qualifications – HTQs – are an alternative study route to apprenticeships or degrees.  This employer-led route provides practical skills and experience including a 225-hour work placement (per year).

We’re offering the following:

  • BTEC Level 4 HNC in Health care Professions Support
  • BTEC Level 5 HND in Health Care Professions Support

Our Higher Technical Qualifications:

  • Support learners wanting to progress in health care professions.
  • Offer valuable CPD to employers for their current staff.
  • Provide Level 4 and 5 qualifications for those wanting to work in management.
  • Provide UCAS points for higher level study.
  • Provide pathways on to more competitive degree programmes such as midwifery and paramedic science.

 

To start an HTQ you need to be aged 18 or over.

You will also need Level 2 or GCSE grade C/4 or above in English and Maths as well as an appropriate level 3 qualification or substantial experience within health and/or social care.

You will be assessed in a variety of different ways including assignments, scenario-based tasks, witness testimonies from the workplace, group discussions, reflective accounts, and presentations.

After successful completion of your HTQ you will graduate with either an HNC or HND in Health Care Professions Support, from which you can on to further study or employment.

Assistant practitioners work in diverse healthcare environments, including the NHS and independent sector, for example, primary, secondary and tertiary care, diagnosis, therapeutic inpatient and outpatient departments, theatres, GP practices, community settings and rehabilitation services.

They support a wide range of practitioners, including registered nurses, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, diagnostic radiographers, physiotherapists, general practitioners, doctors of medicine and surgeons – and this is not an exhaustive list.

The skills offered as part of the Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma can provide graduates with the opportunity to work in many different areas of the health and social care sector.

  • Occupational therapy assistant practitioner
  • Operating department assistant practitioner
  • Prehabilitation and rehabilitation assistant practitioner
  • Maternity care assistant practitioner
  • Community care assistant practitioner
