Rugby Excellence (Falcons Community Foundation) – Level 2 (January)
This course is for you...
You will train like a professional with expert coaches from Newcastle Falcons, experience media training, post-match analysis as well as access to superb strength and conditioning recovery sessions.
Topics on this course include:
- Anatomy and physiology
- Planning sports events and activities
- Developing personal fitness
- The effect of exercise on the body.
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade D (3) or above (with at least one at Grade 4 or (above) or a successful pass at Level 1 Sport and 1 GCSE at Grade 3 or above. You can progress from a relevant Level 1 qualification. A keen interest in rugby is also required.
Assessment is coursework based using a variety of methods including oral exams, practical demonstrations, presentations, reports, role plays and observations.
This course is studied over 6 months (January-July)
Following successful completion of the course, you could have the opportunity to progress to the Level 3 Rugby Excellence Programme.
You also have the option to progress onto a Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching or Exercise Health & Fitness at TyneMet, awarded by the University of Sunderland. Careers include: Teacher, Professional Rugby Coach, Sport Development Officer, Rugby Development Officer, Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, Health Promotion Worker, Sport/Health/Leisure Centre Manager, Strength and Conditioning Coach or Sport Psychologist.

For students aged 16-18 who have not yet achieved a grade 4 in Maths or English, these subjects will be included in your timetable along with your main course. Improving your skills in Maths and English is essential, as these qualifications open doors to further study and career opportunities.
Our teaching team will work with you to help you achieve the grades you need, building confidence in these key areas to support your future success.
All 16-18 students must study maths and/or English as part of their main study programme, there is no option to study maths and/or English on its own.
