A talented dry lining apprentice from TyneMet College is set to compete in the prestigious national finals of the WorldSkills UK competition next week. Dawson Dellar, who is currently employed as an apprentice at ACS Plastering, will join the top young dry lining students from across the country for the three-day event held in Milton Keynes from November 19th to 21st.
The competition will be a test of skill and precision, as each of the eight finalists participates in a series of challenging, practical assessments designed to showcase their mastery of dry lining. The young apprentice first entered the competition after his tutor, Tony Dalgleish recognised his dedication and potential, nominating Dawson to represent TyneMet College in the regional heats. His hard work paid off during the semi-finals held in York this past April, where he achieved an impressive 2nd place, securing his spot in the national finals.
Course tutor, Tony comments,
Being part of this competition is a huge achievement on its own. It’s a rare opportunity for students to show what they’re capable of on a national stage, and he’s earned every bit of this through his commitment and talent.
This marks a remarkable milestone in Dawson’s career as he competes against some of the best students from across the country. If successful, he could open doors to further training, industry recognition, and even international competition. WorldSkills UK is known for pushing young talent to reach new heights, and the practical assessments in dry lining will challenge his skill, creativity, and attention to detail in a demanding, real-world scenario.
As he heads to Milton Keynes, the whole college is cheering him on, hoping to see their star apprentice bring home a title that would not only be a personal triumph but also an inspiration for other students in the trades.
We’re wishing Dawson the very best of luck as he embarks on this exciting journey!
